about

Steeped in the English tradition, Matt Quinn storms onto the folk scene with this striking debut album, Broom Abundance. With nothing more than his voice, Matt blasts his way though traditional ballads such as “Green Broom” and “The Week Before Easter”, the latter of which is an almost 10 minute epic learnt from a singer from Matt’s native Sussex. His melodeon playing has been described not only as a young Mark Bazeley (of The Dartmoor Pixie Band), but also as a young John Kirkpatrick. On the melodeon, Matt plays traditional, contemporary and self-penned tunes with modern sensibilities whilst maintaining sight of his traditional roots, and never losing track of that basic principle of not letting anything get in the way of a good tune. The varied list of tunes include English standards such as “Lumps of Plum Pudding”, self-penned tunes such as “Nap Over”, and storming Quebecois reels like “Reel a Maritimes”
